3 Ways You’ve Never Used Your Air Fryer Before

If there's one thing that the air fryer is best at it is proving me wrong. The first air fryer video I ever did was honestly just to see if it was a gimmick but from that point on it has become the most used appliance in my kitchen. Plus, it’s clear when you take a little stroll through the internet that people are starting to move past the standard chicken wings and french fries in the air fryer. People are really pushing it to the limit with some wild recipes! So, that's going to be the goal of this video. I'm going to be picking some of these crazier recipes that I've seen and put them to the test. I’ll see if they are just for views and not worth ever doing or they're actually genius and could  be another technique or recipe that I can add to my air fryer arsenal.

Reverse Seared Air Fryer Steak

My first time cooking a steak in an air fryer didn’t come out great and I haven’t tried since. However, this reverse seared method from @papabwoi looked promising so I had to give it a second go. The trick here is to use the air fryer as an oven to precook the steak and then finish it off by searing it on the stove with some rosemary and garlic.

For my steak, I went with a 1-1/2 inch ribeye steak and dry brined it to really give it a chance at a hard sear. I popped it into the air fryer at 240F for 15 minutes and got an internal temp of 100F. I seared it on a heavy bottomed cast iron pan for 4 minutes on each side with some thyme, garlic, and butter. The results were fantastic! Although the timing did need to be tweaked, it’s a great air frying technique and one that I will do again!

Air Fryer Veggie Omelette

This omelette technique is the kind of air fried ingenuity that I like to see! He took out the rack from the air fryer and used it as a pan. Then air fried some veggies and poured over some scrambled eggs to create an air fried omelette. When I gave this a go I air fried my onions and broccoli at 400F for 9 minutes and then an additional 5 minutes once the eggs went it. I love the efficiency of cooking veggies while prepping the eggs because it makes such good use of time especially in the AM.

I decided to take the omelette out a minute early because the top and sides were fully cooked but when I flipped the omelette out of the air fryer I found the omelette was not fully cooked on the bottom! When it comes to cooking eggs, it’s all about proper technique and temperature to make sure the eggs are fully cooked but still fluffy. However, that is just not going to happen when all the heat is coming from the top which is standard for most air fryers.

Whole Roasted Air Fryer Chicken

This tiktok really pulled me in to test if roasting a whole chicken is a viable option or I was just getting punked. To my surprise, my dried brined whole chicken did amazing in the air fryer! I stuck my bird breast side down so it wouldn’t dry out and air fried it at 375F for 30 minutes. At the halfway mark, the chicken was hitting 150F internally so I pulled it out early. After I let it rest for 10 minutes in the air fryer, I found that the breasts and thighs were a little underdone from where I normally would like my roasted chicken to be.

I do believe I had an advantage from my dual blaze cosori which has a heating element on the bottom as well as the top. However, it was a super juicy bird and I do think you can roast a whole bird in an air fryer that has only one heating element.
